Urban regeneration for social interaction and soft mobility

San Giorgio Bigarello, Italy

The strategic vision behind the regeneration project is to enhance urban quality and attractiveness by continuing interventions on green areas, urban greenery, and sustainable mobility corridors both within the municipality and between neighboring municipalities.

As Deputy Mayor Barbara Chilesi explained, the regeneration project is linked to a new way of conceiving these parks: no longer just areas for children’s play, but genuine shared spaces designed to foster gathering and social interaction for the whole community.

The project will transform the area along Via Frida Kahlo, currently adjoining the school parking area, into a modern, sustainable space dedicated to social gathering, responding to one of the area’s main needs. The planned interventions include the creation of a large pedestrian green island designed for soft mobility, enriched with fountains, benches, trees, and a playground.

“This is important news for our community,” commented Mayor Davide Dal Bosco. “Over the past months, many residents have asked for a square that could truly bring people together, a place where everyone could meet and enjoy social life.”
