Nîmes is a city in Occitanie, southern France. It was once an important outpost of the Roman Empire and is known for its well-preserved monuments, such as the Amphitheatre of Nîmes, a two-tiered amphitheater dating back to around 70 AD, still used for concerts and bullfights. The white limestone Maison Carréè Roman temple and the three-tiered Pont du Gard aqueduct date back approximately 2,000 years.
