In the heart of Bucharest, Sector 4 was historically characterised by large-scale residential blocks typical of Eastern European cities of the late 20th century. These concrete structures, designed for functionality and density, often left limited room for accessible, high-quality public spaces. From 2017 onward, the local administration launched an ambitious programme of urban regeneration to create a greener, more vibrant and citizen-friendly environment.
This is the context in which Totul Verde began collaborating with Metalco. Over the years the partnership has grown stronger, with Metalco becoming Totul Verde’s official partner, and the collaboration gradually extending to the group’s other urban-furniture brands.
The transformation is visible across a wide range of interventions: boulevards such as Alexandru Obregia and Constantin Brâncoveanu, new squares and esplanades, and parks like Piața Sudului, Orășelul Copiilor and Flamura. The brief was clear: move away from a grey, cement-heavy image and deliver colourful, inclusive places for everyday life. The goal was to create islands of aggregation where different generations can meet, relax and share the city.
Materials reflect the group’s full expertise: reconstituted stone (PDM), high-performance concrete (HPC), wood and steel. Many sites use standard collections for flexibility and reliability. Others required custom solutions. A key example is Shaolin, a modular linear system conceived for long runs that act as both seating and green-space edging, later included in the Bellitalia catalogue.
Focus projects within Sector 4
Beyond boulevards, parks and public spaces, the collaboration also produced emblematic projects that became local landmarks. These mini cases show how the partnership in Sector 4 goes beyond standard furniture and embraces infrastructure, design and innovation.
Multistory Park, Tulnici
This tailor-made parking facility demonstrates the same integrated approach. Metalco led concept and creative direction, coordinated design and engineering, and managed heavy carpentry with local partners to deliver a bespoke hybrid between infrastructure and urban furniture, aligned with the district’s functional and aesthetic goals.
Today, the collaboration between Totul Verde and Agora Makers’s brands stands as a strong example of long-term urban transformation. Sector 4 has evolved into a district where boulevards host contemporary furniture, parks and squares welcome families, and infrastructure projects act as design markers. It shows how high-quality urban furniture and integrated solutions can catalyse civic identity and regeneration.
Bucharest, nicknamed Little Paris, is the capital and most populous city of Romania and the fourth most populous in the European Union.
