Urban greenery

Rimini, Italy

Beyond business, fitness and relaxation.
This could be the slogan of the Palacongressi Inside Out project, through which IEG redesigned the space in front of Entrance B, facing the roundabout where a fountain once stood. The area has been reimagined with new urban furniture elements that represent the natural continuation of the Parco del Mare, along with functional seating also designed for outdoor training.

The space has also been enriched with the Superverde collection by Metalco, designed by architect Stefano Boeri. These environments are not only intended for conference attendees to enjoy between work sessions but are also open and accessible to local residents.

Many young people have already started using the area for skateboarding, while athletes make use of the equipment for physical activity. The idea, as the mayor explained to the IEG representatives present at the inauguration, is to increasingly integrate key drivers of the local economy, such as the Palacongressi, with the surrounding territory in which they have developed.

Superverde – Arch. Stefano Boeri

Superverde is a modular system by Metalco developed in collaboration with Stefano Boeri, designed to bring living nature into urban space by expanding green surfaces and increasing biodiversity even where traditional planting is not possible. By layering a new, habitable “green stratum” over existing hard and mineral surfaces, Superverde transforms residual spaces into micro-landscapes for urban life. Balanced between technology and ecology, it creates settings dedicated to arrival, pause and encounter, fostering renewed proximity between people and the plant ecosystem, between city and nature.

Stefano Boeri is an internationally renowned Italian architect and urban planner whose work explores how cities can accommodate trees, biodiversity and everyday life within the same space. From architecture to public space, his projects translate the concept of urban forestry into concrete solutions, making nature a structural element rather than a merely decorative one.

Superverde brings this logic to the scale of the street: a designed and inhabitable green layer capable of colonizing hard urban surfaces and generating biodiversity where the city usually excludes it. Thanks to Metalco’s expertise in urban design and Boeri’s nature-based vision, Superverde transforms public space into a living interface where ecological performance and human interaction intertwine.
