Schönbrunn Palace (German: Schloss Schönbrunn), Vienna’s famous imperial palace, was the seat of the Imperial House of Habsburg from 1730 to 1918. It was once located in the countryside, but has since been incorporated into the city. It is located in Hietzing, on the western outskirts of Vienna. It is often incorrectly referred to as a palace, despite the fact that, as a large country residence, it is actually a castle.
The palace and gardens have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
