Urban Elements in Vancouver Harbour

Vancouver, Canada

Canada Place is one of Vancouver’s most iconic landmarks, a waterfront hub that welcomes millions of visitors each year through its cruise terminal, convention centre, and public spaces. In 2016–2017, the “North Point” area underwent a major renewal designed by Connect Landscape Architecture, whose vision was to create a promenade evoking islands in the ocean. Sculptural seating, fluid lines, and vibrant public spaces were conceived to reflect Vancouver’s identity and its deep connection with the waterfront.

At the heart of this transformation were the urban furniture solutions provided by Metalco. The collections Diamante, Natural Puzzle, Treeline & Lorenz and Meteor were selected to combine sculptural design with the resilience required by Vancouver’s harsh winters and constant marine exposure. Crafted in reconstituted stone (PDM), high-performance concrete (HPC), wood, and steel, these modular systems delivered flexibility, durability, and a strong visual presence.

The result is a renewed public space where architectural vision and material performance merge, reinforcing Canada Place as both a civic gathering point and an international gateway, and showing how high-quality urban furniture can help define the identity of a city.
