“Abracadadabra”
design studio Lagranja - Barcellona
The quality of life in cities is determined by the communal spaces and their liveability, i.e. the possibility to meet up with others and socialise out in the open or to take a break in convenient, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing places. This is the philosophy behind Metalco’s street furniture, which brings together design, aesthetics and ergonomics in order to offer its users total comfort.
Abracadabra, a new product featured in the 2012 catalogue, is the result of a partnership with the Lagranja studio in Barcelona. It is an outside bench that is characterised by the great homogeneity of the materials used, including aluminium (recycled and recyclable), zinc-plated and varnished steel and Pietra Serena with various possible finishes.
Abracadabra is made up of various modules, which can be mixed and matched to create a whole range of different configurations: as a linear structure, as an island, in a cross shape or with branches, depending on the required use and especially on the public space available.
The seats are made with steel frames, available in various sizes and colours. Each seat can be accompanied by specially made cast aluminium back rests, customisable in any colour.
This object possesses flexibility and functionality, with a design that is rich in detail and where the accurate combination of the materials, in terms of colour as well as texture, is proof of the astute choices made by the designers.
The grey of Il Casone’s Pietra Serena provides a neutral tone that complements perfectly the brighter colours of the steel, such as green, light orange or an infinite number of other possibilities. The different combinations are so unlimited in possibility that architects are able to adapt the product according to their own interpretation of the urban environment and to different situations.
